Does age matter in romantic relationships?
As long as they are both of legal age - no. My grandparents were 13 years apart. My middle daughter is 7 years younger than her husband. I have very good friends that are 22 years apart.
Legally it shouldn't morally it should.
Legally it shouldn't? Really? We shouldn't protect children from adults?
We should protect our children from perverted consensual relationships, the government however should not protect our children from perverted consensual relationships that's not the role of government.
Wow - what about children with lousy parents
Someone in society will protect them
Yes - that someone in society is call a police officer and then a government social worker. Those are the people we who work with children can call when something is wrong - we have no power without them
If the parent is that inept there are adoption agencies
There are lousy parents who wouldn't give up their child. I know - I've had to be the "bad guy" and go in with CPS to physically remove them. Without leverage, it won't work.."
And then there are always the cases where the /parent/ is the inappropriate relationship... What do you do then if there's no leverage..? No color of law? Prepare to be shot when you step on my porch... What then?
Are we seriously having this conversation people?! The government does have the right to enforce morality and in this case that's quite easy to show.
@skinner - what about the child I found - quite by accident - 9 years old and had never been out of the house... The neighbors didn't even know there was a child there. I know that's not an age/relationship issue,
But when we got our warrants in order and took the child, you would have thought we were raping and murdering the mom, as much fit as she pitched... (The mom, that is...)
She would have NEVER willingly given up this child. As inept a parent as she was, that child was her self-identity. Without the leverage of the law, that child would still be there...
@rightway101 - your right
Whoa slow down Jon, I'm not saying the government can't find a parent unable to raise a child especially if they are the abusers.
Right: find somewhere in the constitution where it says enforcing morality is cool.
Perhaps, then, you can clarify what you mean above when you say, "that's not the role of government." and the thread immediately following.
It's not the role of government to stop underage sex as long as its consensual. The government can still find parents inept and take a child by force.
To me? As long as they're legal - no.
