Articles like these often state that removing gender- and race-based wage gaps would increase America's GDP. Conservatives often question were the increase would come from. Do these articles accurately portray said results?

There is no "gap," actually, it's just an earnings difference. They choose different fields with different pay.

I don't believe it would cause any change. The money has to come from somewhere, and higher pay does not always correlate to increased productivity.

It's not the higher productivity that would be the cause, it's the work and the monetary value that they would be providing. A lot of the work that women currently do isn't calculated into GDP, but is still extremely valuable (in many cases more valuable than the men's work). Where having more women would make a huge impact is in the STEM fields and thankfully that is where many of them are going.
