No. Were it not for the family we currently babysit for (ages 4, 9, and 13) I'd have never heard of Clifford. Was Norman Bridwell known for anything else? Was Clifford in as many comic strips as Snoopy?

I vaguely remember Clifford cartoons in the newspaper a long time ago, but don't know if those are even related. If not, I guess I never heard of him.

Yeah, grammar. If it was grammatically correct it would have said
"... The Big Red Dog series, Norman Bridwell, passed away". Without the comma, the words "passed away" are part of his name.
