The only homeless shelter in Williamsburg, KY is the private run "Christian Homeless" shelter. It's owner recently kicked out all the women because they were having sex with the men. It's private so legal, but is it ok from a moral standpoint?

Terrible. Can he? Yes, but that has nothing to do with morality.

Ehh I'm not sure on this one. Are "women only" homeless shelters immoral? Of course not, and vise versa. But they were already established there, so it was kinda a dick move. But then again if they're homeless it's going to be even harder for the shelter to support their children. But it's private so he can make the rules that he pleases.

Why didn't he kick out he men for having sex with the women?

This is a situation where morals are different for everyone. If you're staying somewhere for free, you need to respect the rules. That being said, the rule-breakers need to be treated the same.

"His shelter his rules" yeah... that's great and all... but the question isn't asking about that is it?

Whether or not you find his morals lacking is not the same as what you feel his rights should be as a business owner.

People need to stop reading into things to find secret meanings and agendas and just answer the damn question.

To a lot of people, legal = moral, especially when it comes to business.

Perhaps. Mostly I just think the people that are super pro business just don't want to say they disagree with a business owners practices because they can't grasp that disagreeing with him and shutting him down aren't the same thing.

His shelter, his rules. Usually there are many more shelters for women only than men only or joint use

DL - gotcha. Just didn't want you thinking there were more/other options out there.

No one is saying he shouldn't have the latitude to make his own rules for his own privately-owned shelter. The question asks whether or not the decision was moral.

Since in the Christian precepts extramarital sex is immoral it would appear his choice is moral. Its a judgement call, no right or wrong answer

So only punishing the women is moral? Doing nothing about the men is moral?

Apparently...

What happened to the Atheist Homeless shelter?

I personally kinda think that's the one we're discussing here.....

They have a shelter? Not talking about a state or city run facility but the Atheist foundation.

It's his shelter, his rules. Anyone else is welcome to open another shelter an let as many people have sex that want to have sex.

Shouldn't he just have kicked out the people who were breaking the rules?

πŸ‘†πŸ‘†πŸ‘†The people, not just the women. The women weren't having sex with each other; they were having it with men.

Rules are rules but the men should be kicked out as well.

After watching the video I don't have a problem with the hem going to all men. There are plenty of shelters that are all women.

However I wonder if they will kick out men who have sex with each other.

Well, it is the only shelter in town, and the alternative is about an hour away. That may not sound like much, but it's huge when you have no car, are trying to work, have friends, kids in school, etc.

I agree it's far. But it is not our place to judge how they run there charity. Next step might be to just close it down. At least some of the less fortunate are being taken care of.

He is doing more for them than I am.

Wait a second

He kicked out the women for having sex with the men, but he did not kick the men out for having sex with the women? Seriously?

How incredibly sexist. I can't form the words to put the rest of how negatively this all is though...

ronderman North Carolina

He didn't have the facilities to keep them separate. He wants a shelter where people don't have sex. He should be able to have that. The only way to do this in his current facility is to remove the women.

There are women shelters all over this country. I see nothing wrong with his shelter being men only if that's what he wants.

FacePalm That Trick Never Works

The problem is that his is the only shelter in town. The nearest women's shelter is 30 m away. It seems a different solution should be available to satisfy his desire for celibacy.

Now there is a need. Hopefully someone else will step up and provide something for the women.

""I guess I'm a little old school, but the first people off the boat were the women and children," Williamsburg Mayor Roddy Harrison told the news station."
