Yesterday, I was subtly accused of supporting PP because I challenged a user to provide factual evidence of a claim they made. Is providing proof to support a claim just not something we do here? Are we interested in debate or 1 sided rhetoric?

I think it depends on who your talking too.

I think that was the problem. Rather than verifying the claim they made, then went right in for an attack. That's just weak debate.

Yes, it's very weak.

I find very little discussion about substantive points and counter points. I would like for there to be more discussion and less demagoguery.

Well, I'm always right so I don't need a debate......

Of course! By the way, you and susanr are my inspiration on trying to be more tactful but I'm failing this week!

I'm not always tactful. I know I wasn't a few days ago with a specific user who ended up putting me on ignore. His loss! ๐Ÿ˜

I'm finding that this time around its just beat to avoid some folks and their polls.

Me? Oh man, I try to be tactful, but you know, I lose it with some regularity. I had the same experience a while ago with being put on ignore because I... wasn't at all tactful. Deliberately.

I will agree with the "avoidance" tactic, though. Not to long ago (actually, it was shortly after Obama's birthday, and that's not a coincidence), I unfollowed a rather large number of folks. A few days later, I unfollowed a bunch more, people of

pretty much my own political persuasion, but I just got disgusted with obnoxious comments.

08/19/15 6:46 pm

That's exactly what I did today. Of my own persuasion. I won't go into detail but it's clear that there is a double standard. And yes, you and Kay are tactful and you have also taught me how to be less biased in polls but I'm sure it still happens.

I've noticed many polls seem to be less about gaining an understanding of different opinions and more about inviting a group of like-minded people to congratulate each other on how morally and intellectually superior they are.

08/18/15 2:44 pm

Yes. I'm also noticing in my Facebook travels, links to articles that are more blog posts and factually inaccurate. It's easy to see why some movements are gaining traction.

I refer to this as circle jerk polls. โœŠ๐ŸปโœŠ๐ŸปโœŠ๐ŸปโœŠ๐Ÿป๐Ÿ’ฆ๐Ÿ’ฆ๐Ÿ’ฆ

I referred to a poll as a circle jerk once. In the poll. Haven't made that mistake again.

I kinda got jumped on. And I truth, it's kind of a non-diplomatic thing to say. Even if it is true. The sort of thing better just kept to yourself, unless you *really* want to make a big stink. Which I usually don't, not over that anyway.

We don't discuss. More like shout and yell profanity when people don't agree lol
