Poll Re Ask: Should Puerto Rico be granted statehood?
We're hardly one to talk.
They don't want it. They many of the advantages of being a State w/o the responsibilities.
Yes, but ONLY if more than 80% of the population of Puerto Rico wants that.
Only if it's what the people who live there want.
They can, but they don't want it.
They like it they way it is; mainly the protection and economic opportunities the U.S.offers. We like the presence in the Caribbean.
If they want it.
It's divided. Some do, some want status quo, some want independence. It's anything but one opinion across Puerto Rico
They've been voting on it, they don't want to.
It's basically a three way divide. It's nothing but unanimous in ANY direction. For better or worse
They don't have representation in congress or the right to vote. But that only matters if you think our elections are remotely fair anyway.
Ditto both above.
I don't believe they want to be a state; if they did, I'd say "yes."
Probably, but I'll miss the number being 50!!
Only if they want it.
Previously, yes. Last year they voted in favor of statehood. Congress hadn't gotten around to their application yet.
Yes, if the people there vote for it in a clear, unequivocal way.
For those who say no, would you be willing to allow for an amendment granting them a voting rep in the house? Maybe dc as well if you want?
How would you define clear and unequivocal?
but how could we sing the fifty nifty United states?
Not unless they want it.
But 51 is the product of two primes!
Especially no since they are on the brink of defaulting in their bonds and have no place to turn for additional loans. Maybe after they get their spending in order but not now.
To those who say no: should we keep the status quo, or let them become independent?
Yes, but first they need to get their fiscal house in order. They're close to defaulting on their debt and might even need a federal bailout.
