Do you think the responsibility for providing for the family financially should be shared equally amongst parents in households or that financial responsibility should fall primarily on either the fathers or mothers?
I think it should be whatever each family decides is best for them. There isn't one right answer here.
I think that between the parents, they should decide how they want to handle financial support. One, the other, or both. Whatever works for *them.* (I voted “both.”)
(And ya know, it could be two fathers or two mothers... or even less US-traditional arrangements than that.)
I think it could be shared but sometimes one parent needs to stay home with the children. It depends on each family’s situation.
I think if dad doesn’t try to provide for his family that’s pretty sad, but if the mom does or doesn’t work that’s between her and her husband
It depends on the situation. Sometimes it makes more financial sense for only one parent to work. Sometimes both have to. I think it’s best if one can stay home, though.
It wasn’t that long ago when it was possible to have a one income family. I grew up in one.
To this day, my father alone makes more than mine and my wife's incomes combined.
As for the question, every family should decide for themselves.
If they can live comfortably on one that’s fine but if they both need to work they both need to work.
It really rests with whatever arrangement was made between the parents. Some stay-at-home wives do so because that’s what they’ve agreed upon.
I think the pressure, both societally and economically, to have a 2 income family is ridiculous. It wasn’t that long ago when a single income was enough to provide. It wasn’t about acquiring things it was about family.
Good luck moving up on one income with a family.
