What would you say it means to be on the political right?
One of three things, advocacy of private control over the means of production, promotion of social hierarchy as something desirable or necessary, or reactionary politics. Each of these are historically significant conceptualizations of left and right that can often be helpful when thinking about political movements and philosophies.
Small government - less regulations - personal responsibility -
Believe in individual rights and have a set of values that stand against the federal government. Believing everyone should be equal socially but not economically. Believing that everyone should do their best to be as happy and economically successful as possible with as little government interference as possible.
To me, I think of the right as defense of or promoting the expansion of existing power structures.
Practically all of those apply to me so I don’t think that’s a particularly helpful way to think about right wing politics if we’re trying to distinguish between left and right.
