Following this year's midterm primaries, I've noticed a trend: very few races we outsider vs establishment. Instead, the fight seems to be State Establishment vs Washington Establishment. Has anyone else picked up on this?

Good analysis.
Would-be leaders will always notice where the public is going and race to get in front of it.
Thus are causes lost or subverted.

I think from where I am here in Maine there are legitimate outsiders against a state establishment that's somewhat more benign than the Washington establishment. The outsiders don't really seem to have the media or financial power to compete though.
