"We should beware of the demagogues who are willing to declare a trade war against our friends, weakening our economy, our national security, and the entire free world, all while cynically waving the American flag,” Ronald Reagan
Trade wars help the FEW but hurt the MANY. History has taught us that. Some numbskulls just being dense.
No, except maybe in his own mind. But he is the perfect example of a demagogue. Or, in my more precise version of English, a dumbassagogue.
Amazing watching the conservatives defend trump on this
Dammit squid, you made me agree with Reagan!
Hate to burst your bubble Harry....but that is an exact quote. Here is the video: mobile.twitter.com/davidiramadan/status/1002610123540451328
Squid ... what’s sad is that past presidents didn’t heed Mr Reagan’s advice! As a result, we have MANY of our trading partners who already have tariffs or other restrictions on US goods. The way to break those hostile trading positions is to play hardball with those partners!
The dishonest media and corrupt Democrats only tell half the story (who’s surprised?). The better question is why didn’t MrO, the nimwhits that was the Democrat savior, fix those lopsided disadvantageous positions with other governments?
The answer is that MrO (and several who preceded him) were feckless on trade. Thank goodness that we have a strong President on trade to bring those trade agreements into parity. And once again, thank goodness that Democrats are out of power!
I rarely agree with anything Reagan, but I agree with this. Except that he wasn’t prescient enough to have spelled it dumbagogues, to better fit our current situation.
Zod ... and what’s a hoot is that you can’t see that you just described MrO and your love of him. Most of us on the right see the brash man that is our president. You and most of the other loopy leftist Obama groupies still can’t get past that failed president and his feckless policies.
MrT will push to correct the unfair trade positions of our “allies” and you will again assume the cockroach position as the light goes on ...
Who knew Reagan could predict the future???
That’s what I️ mean. I️ don’t agree with tariffs in general, and damn sure not with our allies.
I agree with you. 😺
Negotiating leverage. That's all it is.
Dom ... I’m not sure who you’re talking with, but you’re wrong. When you look only at a part of the issue, you will never solve it! You don’t want the US to impose tariffs, and neither do I; but you appear comfortable with the fact that our allies ALREADY have tariffs and other barriers on our products and services! Why is that?
MrT is only attempting to level the playing field that feckless MrO left for him. Our supposed defense allies are NOT our trading allies as MANY of them already have a protectionist posture for their own goods!
Don’t be sucked in by the half-truths from the media and Democrats. They will never admit their failures and must therefor twist that truth.
Zod ... MrO is out of office, so we’re free of the dumbass! The good news is that we now have a president that is smart enough not to be taken advantage of by our “allies” and this action will likely lead to some of those allies removing the tariffs and other restrictions on our goods and services so as to level the playing field. This action will benefit American workers!
Bull s••t = used hay.
Trump isn’t a demigod Squid. Keep trying
Typical Liberal bullshit! It isn’t Reagan, but simply twisting his words.
Didja ever notice how closely recent administrations have resembled that of Frank Underwood?
Keep your friends close and your enemies closer.
Trump has waged a trade war, to a degree, but he's been strong on national security and has strengthened the economy since getting in, so I really don't see how that comment comes close to describing trump.
I never knew Reagan was a psychic
