I think diversity training works best between the ages of 2 and 5. After that, diversity training seems an ongoing process of learning how to fake everyone into believing we’re colorblind.🙈

A true story: at a small town zoo you could buy a cup of feed for the animals. My friend son Danny, age 3, stood in front of a bench with three black people resting. Danny started throwing the feed at them.

My dog was 6 mos old when I had a big party. Lights were dim. Jimmy’s wife Ruth was very dark. The dog caught her out of the corner of his eye, ran between the legs of a perfect stranger who was also the whitest guy. He kept barking at Ruth and I brought him upstairs for a diversity lesson.

My personal story was that my Father was Archie Bunker. My mother and I sat and watched the show and when Archie said something stupid my mother pointed at Pop. My father worked in the Brooklyn Navy yard along side men of every race, creed and color. So I never understood his faux racist attitude. Archie and Pop were my diversity teachers. They helped me see thru the absurdity of it all.

In the sense that it raises awareness, yes, but it needs to be reinforced by some method - whatever works best for the environment.

Yes I think it does. I had some when I was going back to school before my son came out of the closet. I think it helped me immensely. After all the stuff going on in our school district where in for it here too. It’s probably a good idea at this it’s a very redneck area to live in.

Probably, if it is done early and often enough. In any case it doesn’t hurt, and if it is used to eliminate the excuse and facilitate firing those who never should have been offered the job serving the public in the first place, it’s worth whatever it costs until the last of those wastes of space and air is out the door.

We used to watch All in the Family. Everyone in my family loved that show. Even my father, who we used to joke that is the model for Archie Bunker lol. He just laughed it off.
