When faced with big decisions, do you tend to take the safer option or the option with more risk but bigger "upside"?
Which one has dark chocolate?
Evaluate the risk thoroughly. Think it through. Act if the risk seems reasonable. If not, go with the safer option. I am really good with risk, because 95% of the time it pays off for me. Safe doesn't always pay off (well enough) because there is not as much upside.
As in poker, I favor a calculated risk.
If you are too timid, you get nowhere.
If you go all-in all the time, you will soon be busted.
"Best" is in the eye of the decider - that's partly the point of the question. Does "best" for you mean the choice with less risk, or the choice with higher possible payoff?
"Safe" is a myth. All or nothing!
I'm a risk taker by training. I moved halfway across the country with my family when I was 13. Repeated that to go to college where I knew NO one. Did it again after graduation. I went back to school which was a bit of a bold move considering. I'm a go big or go home kind of girl.
YAODO.. You also only die once. So... Just no.
Well you may regret not taking risks.
Fortune favors the bold
I'm 24. The only thing I have to lose is time, so I say risky (not stupid)
I decided for what I want to do I needed to go back to school. I quit my job and moved. Right now I'm working part time while taking classes to get into a masters program I want.
It actually has worked out quite well so far.
I tend to go towards the safer options. For example, wearing a condom. It prevents unwanted pregnancy. I always make my children wear condoms when they are shooting an adult film. It just ensures me that they're being safe, while at the same time thoroughly enjoying themselves during the activity.
I don't make them do it, it's what they want to do. They have my approval. All they want to do is enjoy their job. I love watching my babies hard at work, it makes me a proud parent!

Usually safer if it affects my family. More risk/upside if it only affects me.
I'm not a risk taker. Never have been. Never will be.
A ship in its harbor is safe, but that is not what ships are for.
I tend to select the option I think will produce the most interesting results.
SoH Texas hold 'em game? I think that would be legit. We can talk politics and religion while playing.
Throw it all down and see what happens.
Exactly! I always wear Depends when I'm taking a big risk.
I've always wanted to get my pilot's license...
Safe side: don't spend 7k, don't need to invest all the time, no possibility of crashing a plane.
Up side: realize childhood dream, have freedom to go just about anywhere, never having to regret failing to do it.
I'll choose the up-side.
Usually take the upside! Although i always pay for it later -____-
I'm getting ready to buy a $22,000 motorcycle. It's a big decision and if you don't think it is risky, you don't know my wife.
Risk/reward. Has paid off in the stock and commodities.
How about "best".
Currently taking several risks with the potential for huge payoffs.
What's life without a bit of risk?
Well....you live every second therefore you live many times.....???
It really depends on the situation.
I'll take risks that I can calculate or analyze the probable outcomes, otherwise I'll play it safe. Then again, when you are pretty sure of the outcome, it's no longer a risk is it?
Depends on what a "big decision" is. Using the simplest test, that "big decisions" mean life or death, and all other decisions are the small stuff that isn't worth sweating, I'll go with safe. Life and death means no guessing. Be sure, be quick, and have a backup plan. Or two.
praet - I loove poker :-)
This question makes me anxious. I can't decide.
I usually go the safe route (which doesn't necessarily mean "conventional") but sometimes I just take a leap off a cliff. Quit a decent job at 39 to go back to college; left my house & friends to move to a new state where I knew no one, for grad school when I was 45. Somewhat scary changes.
It depends really on so many things.
There you go again about making your kids do porn, you sick, twisted, sob!
Quit bringing that up!
Fatty - in an earlier poll, you and 3-4 of your friends said you made your kids watch porn from an early age. Don't say you didn't because its still posted.
You have as much right to use this app as I do but you need to stop talking about your kids making porn! It's sickening to most parents.
I would have said safer but based off of all the classes I took this fall and how difficult they were by there selfs let alone together I would say harder but a big upside to get the classes done
Depends on the risk, I answered assuming the risk was getting arrested!
All things being equal, I'll take the risk.
And quit making your other Tennessee friends like your comments!
Like when two multiple choice questions on a test and they both are generally the same with same options.
Really its the age old debate of take 1million dollars or50/50 at a 100mill
