Have you ever reported a suspicious looking package to an authority?
I've been the person whose suspicious item was reported (sort of).
I worked in a laboratory building at a medical school where a ticking noise was reporting coming from a locker, which was locked with a key-type external lock. The department head in the building called campus security; they came and evacuated the building, and called in their bomb squad.
While we were all waiting outside, some information about what was going on filtered through the gathered employees; that it was a ticking noise coming from a locker on the 2nd floor. The locker number was mentioned. I had a really bad feeling, although I didn't remember my locker number for sure, and I went up to the security folks just outside the front entrance and talked to them; figured out it be my locker, and gave them the key.
The said the bomb squad had already X-rayed the locker and were in the process of cutting off the lock.
It turned out that when I went in my locker at lunch time to get something out, I bumped the defective Sony Walkman Sports cassette player that I had stashed in there. It was trying to play a tape, thought it had come to the end and was trying to reverse, but because it was defective, it just kept going tick..tick..tick..tick.. Which was audible from outside the locker.
It didn't help that the lockers weren't identified by employee. You just used any one you wanted. They were in the central open area of the building.
It didn't help that this was just a few months after 9/11 and everyone was sort of on trigger alert.
It didn't help me personally that the department head who called security was my own boss...
For the remaining 11 years that I worked there, I still kept hearing stories about the day I caused the lab to be evacuated.
No, but I've been the authority a suspicious looking package was reported too, lol
Wow, sorry you had that experience. Thank you for sharing.
