I think it can be and depends on parental involvement. But, I don't think it is necessary for every child. I didn't send any of my kids to pre-school. But, we worked with them at home to make sure they entered kindergarten at an appropriate level. They did and they thrived all throughout their school years. Now, two of them are CPAs and one is finishing his nursing degree.

It was good for my kids, to help them to "hit the ground running" in school. Not necessary for everyone, though.

Depend on the child and family situation.
I am in favor of preschool for most children. However, it is quite costly in many areas.

Especially if the parents are less involved than they should be. We had no problem, because our kids were not latchkey kids.
