The U.S. is removing restrictions on importing endangered African elephant trophies from Zimbabwe and Zambia. Good move?

The game reserves where people can hunt in Africa are ironically one of the few places where the elephant populations are increasing. They use the revenue to increase the populations so more revenue would contribute to that.

A girl in my ap gov class got really heated over this topic. She believed it is distraction for the current tax bill that’s coming up

If Zimbabwe and Zambia wanna sell their elephants for big $ then we have no right to restrict it.

If it is legal to hunt an animal in another country, why must we restrict their source of income?

Some people are far too emotional. Organized hunting of Big Game animals in Africa are what have saved these entire species and pay for the anti poaching game wardens. Some hunters pay over $100,000 to hunt one of these animals. The income is critical to the survival of these rare animals. Because now there is incentives for the people to protect them

Well, they're not hunting them to extinction. They're allowing a limited annual bag limit that would not decrease the overall amount of elephants, and the preserves use the money to fund preservation efforts, like anti-poaching and medical care for the animals. This is actually a net benefit for the endangered species, and will have an overall positive effect on their numbers.

Preventing this kind of limited hunting will eventually lead to the park's money drying up and allow poachers to run rampant and unopposed, as well as making the caretakers unable to provide medical care to the elephants when they require it, if there still are any caretakers left.

If you actually care to move out of your Trump-hate shell and increase your understanding if the topic before passing judgement, read the comment I made above. I would advise that you understand the facts next time before you hate blindly next time. Do you honestly believe that President Trump is some kind of cartoon supervillain that just sits in his tower, thinking up new ways to screw over everybody and everything? He's a human being just like everyone else, understand his reasoning for this issue, and don't be so biased just because you hate the man.

Poachers should be executed. Fuck you Trump for making these assholes legal. Same with your halfwit crotchfruit

Big animals are gonna be extinct in s few years anyway, selling a permit to hunt an elephant for 1 million dollars does a lot more good for the environment than letting it eventually get poached. It also creates a demand to preserve the elephants
