An employee "under" you is very good at their job. They do not seek advancement and reject offers for increased responsibility or pay (except to follow inflation). They are otherwise typical. Are they a good fit?
I had an employee that basically just ran errands for us. He shopped for supplies, did some cleaning, made phone calls, etc. I kept offering him a job tending bar and he always declined (it also included being the shift manager). Finally I guess I pressured him into it. He was terrible. No people skills, no management ability, his till was always off...
Sometimes people are good in the position they’re in and shouldn’t advance.
I demoted him after a bit and everything worked out in case anyone was wondering.
In education there are many teachers who just want to be teachers

I️ have one of these now. Projected retirement so they are just waiting for the day. However, most capable person I️ have. If I️ had an office full of people like that, my life would be very easy.

Absolutely they are. That’s a boss’s dream, a good reliable employee who is content where there at. You can’t stop somebody from advancing, and it can be very hard to fill a good employee’s shoes in their prior role once they advance.
That's what I was saying. I was going directly off the poll question which says that they're normal in most aspects and very good at their job, with the only strange thing being that they deny advancement in their position.

An employee with no ambitions is not a good employee
What if they just really enjoy what they currently do and an advancement would change their responsibilities to the point where they no longer do what they enjoy?
Keyanna - let's assume they are very good. Always booked. Great community relationships. Clean. And are happy to help out however they can. The only issue is they don't want to be in management or whatever.
I hadn't considered that point. So, would it change things if you had a larger or smaller number of people reporting to you?
If your employee’s don’t want to advance, who is going to replace you if your offered a promotion, on the condition you have an employee to replace you with knowledge of the position? Fire him and find someone that wants to learn more about the job and help the Company advance.
Results are interesting. Mostly even for age and income. Political party, no republicans said no. Some democrats said no. Most no's were from independents and libertarians.
