Did you know that a watermelon will not ripen off the vine. You must leave it on the vine until the stem is dry. Anyone else have any gardening tips, since we all either are or want to be in our gardens, this time of year?
Don't plant beans in the same place each year. Give the soil a break.
This applies for a lot of plants. Good to keep everything in a rotation since different veggies deplete the soil of different nutrients.
Don't forget to supplement your soils every year with nutrients and minerals. Comfy will bring nitrogen to the surface. You can cut the leaves and use them as fertilizer.
😂I heard that too growing up. I now know that if you eat watermelon seeds and poop outside that watermelons will grow in the forest 💩👌🏿
If you on the east coast Maryland and above do not plant your tomato plants until after Mothers Day.
Ants 🐜 don't like coffee grounds Slugs 🐌 don't like broken egg shells. A pie plate of beer will get rid of slugs.
Good one. And don't forget diatomaceous earth. It's food grade for humans so it's not poison but will kill cockroaches and ants.
I just thought of one...put ground egg shells in the soil around tomato plants. They LOVE the calcium.
Good one. My wife also puts a banana peel and a crushed up aspirin under her tomatoes.
Beans and peas enrich the soil. A good gardening practice is to follow beans or peas with leafy greens such as cabbage or kale, which love the nitrogen left behind by their predecessors.
I knew that! I'm sure I could come up with tips, but right now, not a clue.
Before planting, make sure the location you choose gets the appropriate amount of sunlight. Sigh.......
I built my wife a sprouting station in the kitchen. It's got shelves with grow lights and shelves. She got all her tomatoes about 18" high by the time the weather warmed. She now has rows of 4' tomatoes with ripe tomatoes in the garden. People probably thought we were growing weed in our kitchen with all those lights last winter.
Aww. Don't you want to grow some vegetables for yourself? It's very satisfying.
Did you know that if you eat watermelon seeds, watermelons will grow out of your ears? That's what I was told growing up. 🙂
Here's a tip. Don't plant those delicious looking tomatoes too close to my back gate.
If you save seeds, make sure they didn't come a hybrid variety.
Yes, May 15 is my target date. I always plant Early Girl and hope for ripe tomatoes by July 4
I've heard that about sweet peas but not beans thank you
It's already over 102° here today.
Aww. Just watch some YouTube videos on how to. You'll get it.
Nope, everything I try to plant and grow dies soon after.
You gonna take them? 😉
Thanks, good idea.
