Depends on the college you attend. An English degree from Harvard is worth more than any degree from a community college and most degrees from a typical state school.

If you're borrowing $100k for college you're doing it wrong

It is as much as it ever was if that is a subject the student is passionate about.

"An English degree from Harvard is worth more than any degree from a community college and most degrees from a typical state school."

That's simply not even close to true. The only thing that Ivy League schools offer is connections.

That should be "mediocre English major IS going to have a hard time finding a job".

A third of Fortune 500 CEOs have liberal arts degree and many say they they like liberal arts degrees, because it helps hone your critical thinking skills and ability to handle ambiguity. Like all degrees, what most matters is that you be among the best. A mediocre English major isn't going to have a hard time getting a job. www.fastcompany.com/3034947/the-future-of-work/why-top-tech-ceos-want-employees-with-liberal-arts-degrees

Good point on Ivy schools. Any degree is better than not having one. But spend wisely and try to determine your goals. You can earn more as an electrician or plumber than most liberal arts majors. Is that worth borrowing $100k for?

The whole point of getting a college degree is to get a job that pays well ... the cost of college is an investment. If you get a bs degree, then you've made a poor investment
