Google Reader, a popular tool which let users read a variety of news feeds from one central web application, has been shut down by Google, effective July 1. Have you ever used an RSS reader app or site?
I like Flipboard and Feedly.
Tony, 2.1 question. It used to scroll down to a reply I'd just posted automatically, but now I have to thumb through all the way from the top again just to get back to where I was. Was this on purpose?
I have the same problem and the same question.
Oh nice... that was the only service that made it possible for a large segment of the work website I built to work properly. They suck.
I get all my news from SOH...
Leave it to google to shut down one of my favorite services.
By the way, please note my new screen name. I used to be whoami18?
replaced Google Reader with Feedly - which I actually like more
Why would they shut it down? Guess I should Google it...
I know it's not much help, but my work-around is to mentally note the time of the comment I'm replying to, to give me an idea of where I left off. Stay patient if you can, nobody wants it perfect more than Tony.
I have an RSS app on my iPad that I use to see all the new movies available for streaming via Netflix.
I use flipboard
Come on, I'm a republican, right? I'm spoon fed from only FoxNews! J
That's cool! What's the app?
I use republican social services to get my food stamps. Do that count?
taken before your time.
Not digging that change. Scrolling through 800 comments is not fun if you have a multi-part reply.
Me, too. Customizable, can read some content offline.
I'll answer for Tony since he's busy squashing bugs. It's a bug that snuck in with 2.1, and wasn't on purpose, and it's on the list to get fixed. I don't know where it falls on the priority list, but it has annoyed Tony too - I'm sure he's on it.
My phone is jailbroken. I installed IntelliScreen X. It gives me one.
I HOPE it's just a bug and will get fixed.
Just switched to Feedly and it's awesome. I highly recommend it & it pulls over your google stuff flawlessly.
I was a heavy greader user. While I've replaced it with Feedly I still miss greader.
What was the point in telling us about Google. Just ask the question.
I use a couple of consolidator apps with a narrower focus than Google Reader (which I rarely used). NewsDesk, Zite, MacHash, Tech News, Politico Playbook. Since falling down the SOH rabbit hole, I don't get to them very often.
zod suck up
And one more LOL!
Thanks, Zod! I had pretty much assumed that, but it's nice to know for sure.
I didn't know about this. Now I have to find another reader that will work it's my reader app!!!
Is it information control? Did the NSA tell Google to shut it down? Or did Google do it to avoid problems for itself or its users? The work of rogue elements or offices? Tune in tomorrow, same Bat time, same Bat channel...
I love Mashable! Check them out for tech and social media news.
I like Flipboard and Zite.
I tried and hated it
No, I have not.
Never in my life lol....
Oh I check out mashable occasionally. So I guess. There must be some others I don't know about.
I'm on Feedly now, seamlessly pulled from Google.
I think I signed up for it but never got the hang of it so it went unused.
I do use the "reader" version of websites on my iPhone.
