An airline (link in comments) has made the decision to hire slender flight attendants to reduce fuel costs. Good business move or discrimination?
Its their airline, they can do what they want
Haha so its a win win :p
I'd think airlines should create incentives for flight attendants to be physically fit. After all they become emergency workers in a crisis. They need to be strong and at a healthy weight for their size.
The article does say the airline will save over $500,000 a year and are making other weight saving changes. Also,MIT didn't say anything about getting rid of anyone currently on staff. I say good for business.
The airplane isles don't have a lot of room for people to get around. I can see about 4 good reasons for slender people being hired.
We were.... But I have this feeling that our freedom is disappearing :-/
They want steam coming from the cabin. They want men giving tips. This is why we fly I. Hooters airlines
Most businesses, especially airlines, need to save a buck anywhere they can. Airlines barely make a profit.
Good business move? Yes! The best reasons are slender people often have better attitudes, fewer hang ups, more energy, they move faster, and are easy on the eyes. These dynamics combined are very good for business.
Company's today want perfection ;)
We're the slaves now
And that line about saving fuel costs? It is what it is, a line, a line that just sounded more politically correct than than reasons I gave. Oh well, I stand by the reasons I presented.
Haha I ain't nobody's slave! :p
So weight limit on jockies is discrimination? Why not race Clydesdales instead? Airplanes have a right to limit weight for safety and economic reasons. It's a business.
Oh for sure, in theory it sounds like a great and fun career move for a year or two, but in reality the dangers are super scary
I mean it is discriminatory and I'm sure that the fuel costs were much closer to the bottom of the list of actual reasons for doing it but in reality I bet a lot of their customers won't mind the eye candy they'll get when flying with the airline
I read it..but those numbers seem a little twisted. It's their airline and they need healthy attendants anyways. Just seems a little mean. Oh well
;) I thought about bein a flight attendant but you have to be 21 it says. I'm 20..also you have to pick your home base so I would live in Atlanta. It would be interesting
Lol I always do! :p
As they are exposed to much more radiation than the average person due to the fact that hey are always on board an airplane. I don't know of any lawsuits regarding this but I wouldn't be surprised if there is a class action lawsuit in the future (not
Riiigggghhjhttttt..keep telling yourself that ;)
I will haha ;)
Haha I would have to see the data to believe them but its their business, not mine.
Me too...it'll change hopefully. To preserve freedom there must be blood shed of tyrants and patriots from time to time
Me too. Lol
Hell yes haha stay free! :p
But are we really free?
Ya ya I know. But how much are they really saving?
It's discrimination, but not if they say they need people to be able to fit in the aisle at a running speed in case of emergency. Now you need slender people.
Exactly, I might not like it but I can't tell them they aren't allowed to plus I think the male frequent flyers traveling on business. All of the time are going to love it
The article said it's estimated a half million a year. And it said it's in conjunction with other cost cutting measures.
Man anyway a business can save a buck..
Well said :)
As the NSA is listening in lol. Say hi!
I think great job if you like travel. Pay not high but the travel can make up for it.
A good friend of mine is a pilot and his wife used to be a flight attendant and they are having the hardest time conceiving a child.their Doctor told them that it is not all that uncommon for of light attendants to have such problems as they are
(Not that they would necessarily win) but I wish that more people knew of this dangerous aspect of having a career based on an airplane. I would hate to find out that my job made me infertile, that would be horrible!
Wow! Didnt know that but makes sense. I wouldn't wanna be one because it seems the pay alone would get old but it would be cool to do it for a couple years to travel etc
