Studies show that, all else being equal, children jailed in juvenile prisons return to crime less than do those locked up in adult prison. Does it, in general, serve society well to charge teens as adults?
One of dozens of reasons not to try children as adults.
I really think it depends upon the crime committed. However, if it were up to me, I'd probably place most very violent , manipulative, emotionally & behaviorally unbalanced kids in a locked facility that really focuses on education, rehabilitation, & mental health (both forensically & therapeutically speaking) & not in some detention center where they're left to rot away.
