Do you refill your car with gas after the refill light comes on, or do you refill well in advance? I know that I can go 50 miles after my light comes on so I always wait for the light.

I rarely let it go below a quarter tank.

At a quarter tank 😎

Another reason not to do it is the fuel pump is in the tank and the fuel helps keep it cool, making it last longer.

I'm the opposite. On a trip, I try to get fuel before or around 1/4, just in case.

Usually I fill it when I'm between a quarter and half tank left.

Depends, around my house I usually don't let it get below 1/4... On long road trips I wait for the light!

Depends. I drive a lot for work. If I am not leaving town, I'll run until the light comes on a good bit, but if I'm headed out to another town, I make sure I've got enough fuel to get back because gas is always 5-10 cents higher in the smaller towns.

Good for you! I've never had a problem I could trace to it either, but mechanics will warn you against the practice.

Whenever I'm near Costco and I need gas.

I like to keep track of my gas mileage, so I always fill my tank and wait for the light. I know I can squeeze out an extra 10-20 miles with the light on.

My car runs out of gas at a 1/4 tank. If the light comes on I better be at the gas station already.

What about when you get a new car? It tracks it for you. Don't be one of those people I see walking with a gas can on the side of the road.

At 3/4 tank. My father got me in that habit. As a firefighter their rigs had to be no more than one quarter empty.

That's never happened to me. Contrary to popular belief, I'm not a dumbo.

Used to let it get very low. Learned the dangers to the engine of the residue in the tank, and don't do that now.
