Is science or God more viable for the explanation of the creation of the universe and life on Earth?
It is and will always be science
In other words... "no thinking required, turns your brains off now."
I reworded this question by replacing "Religion" with "God" to make it clear. Thank you for the suggestion.
Neither. I'm pretty sure that Kim Kardashian created the universe
He/she said with amazing foresight and conviction that only exists in the realm of faith... Which is ironic.
False dichotomy. Why can't it be both?
We've agreed on things before. It was just so traumatic for your delicate liberal sensibilities that your subconscious has blocked it out.
Why separate them?
Science comes from physical evidence and provable truths, no faith. Faith is not a virtue.
The fact that we haven't found any such evidence isn't proof of God's non-existence; absence of evidence is not evidence of absence -- but it does mean that God's existence is *not currently* addressable through the process of scientific inquiry.
That said, of course science has the more viable explanation -- simply because its explanation is based on observable facts, rather than bring made up beforehand and attempting to make facts fit the explanation.
Well said Aranathi.
I personally believe that science is just finding out what God did to make the universe work. They aren't entirely incompatible.
That was by far the best line of the day. XD
"And God got bored so he decided to create stuff. Boom. Your move science."
What a huge pile of BS that is. Science is a process of discovery. If that process led to evidence of God's reality, God's existence would become a scientific theory just like gravity or evolution.
Holy shit, I agree with MilkDud on something. Someone mark the calendar.
At least science has allowed us to scratch the surface when it comes to understanding the universe. But when you simply say "God created the heavens and earth, case closed" that says nothing, it is lazy and requires no thinking.
Science but the two are not mutually exclusive.
This is a silly question. Religion and science do not oppose each other.
If you consider science ,then explain why....oh yea you can't !!!!
Yes they do. They are completely incompatible, by definition.
Science and the concept of a god are incompatible.
Ah. While I agree, your all encompassing statement of certainty regarding all of the cosmos does, in fact, require faith.
Interesting insight, I disagree on a degree but a good point
Science, though I do not think the two are necessarily incompatible.
Cool. It's fun to think about. When we don't see things and desire for them to be true but can't, as of yet, prove them we have to have faith they are as we hope and infer. Thanks for being reasonable.
Um. Please explain.
