After seeing yet another story of a baby being left to die in a car by their parent, I've started hearing the phrase "It could happen to anyone" again. Do you agree with that?
There are some instances where things happen quickly that I didn't understand until I was a parent but this isn't one of them
This just recently happened back home. My Step Aunt actually knew the family and the father who left the child.. I was extremely angry with all the excuses I was hearing from her. "It wasn't his routine", "baby was sleeping". NOPE, sorry, not valid.
It can happen to anyone... Who is stupid enough to forget they had a child in the back seat. Or ignorant enough to "run into the store real quick" while they're kid is in the car. If this is you... Punch yourself in the face!
No. I came home from Iraq to my daughter of 6mo. I went from one horrible sleep schedule to another. I forgot a lot of things, but never the baby in the back seat. I often went to retrieve her when she wasn't there...
I don't have kids so no, it literally can't
As a parent I think it most certainly cannot happen to everyone and I find the idea that it can appalling.
I think we should be concerned for the children of those that said yes.
there was an expert that came out w/suggestions early summer, one was put something important in the back, like a purse, so you'll remember that & the child. when the fuck did a purse become more important than your own fucking kid?
I just can't imagine forgetting a child in the car. Usually, when I was getting close to my destination, I would start planing what I was going to do when I got there: getting kids out of car seats, etc.
No, I don't think it could ever have happened to me.
It could happen to anyone not paying enough attention to a BABY
No. It could not happen to almost anyone. That takes a level of detachment and inattentiveness that few are able to achieve, even with practice and while heavily medicated.
Never happened to me or anyone in my family, which is a pretty big slice, so the answer is nope!
Only if the parents are from the shallow end of the gene pool.
If you forget your kid in the car, I don't see how you don't abuse them in other ways.
I tire of that phrase. Honestly, anything can happen to anyone. That is why life is so surprising or stressful or tragic.
Sure it could happen to anyone, but the fact is that it won't happen to most.
While your comment is correct, it's clear that they (and me when repeating it) meant that phrase about any parents, not anyone in general.
No. I love my kids enough to remember where they are at and what they are doing.
I forget where I put my keys. I forget to pick up milk from the store. I don't see how I could forget a child in a hot car.
That is complete bullshit!
That makes sense, I thought you were just splitting hairs to be an ass.
I'm sure that if you don't "forget" your phone then you can remember to take your child out of the car...
Technically correct is the best kind of correct
Sad as it is to think, yes. There can be any number of factors - it's a different routine, the baby is being unusually quiet, you didn't get enough sleep and are just "out of it"...
It's sheer ignorance and stupidity. How do you have a child and forget them in the car? Because you're a moron.
I've heard some people will put their purse or even their left shoe in the back seat so they'll have to look before getting out. Seems smart.
I could see myself accidentally forgetting my sleeping baby was in the back of my car. I'm super forgetful, and I can go on autopilot when I drive. If I have kids, I would probably do the thing where I leave a reminder on my key chain.
No. It can happen to anyone with a serious amount of misfortune in their birth circumstances.
I agree this sounds stupid, but theirs days I could be on that level of forgetfulness (besides the part where I'm a male that doesn't carry a purse). More reasons not to have kids.
Like, where you have a big key chain that goes from car seat to keys when your kid is in the seat. Im just so forgetful that I would worry about that.
No, I don't.
@Femme, I understand what they ment as well but as I am not a parent and unlikely to produce any biological offspring I don't think i can make a valid point. however, I don't believe I could forget a child in my car.
This user is currently being ignored
Is the ability to remember something directly connected to its value? Or the person's ability to recall? ...don't think people intend to forget, at that point it's ignoring.
Research proves it does not correlate at all with education, IQ, good parenting practices, etc.
Left because of forgetfulness.
Yes, it could happen to anyone. Good luck sleeping tonight.
Wouldn't the child be crying and screaming so their parent wouldn't "forget"
The chance that you might forget a child in the back seat is a reason not to have kids?
So was the baby left to die as in murder or left out of forgetfulness while in the store and "to die" was implied?
