Does the Tea Party help the GOP more or harm it?

I'm sick of the Tea Party taking out our incumbents. They need to stop destroying the stability of our party and begin to negotiate pragmatically not just with the Democrats but with their own party

Harming, but it isn't the only cause of why the Republican Party has been in the decline in the past years. While the libertarian party is getting most of the fiscal conservatives, since many republicans are pushing religion into politics.

“Mark my word, if and when these preachers get control of the [Republican] party, and they're sure trying to do so, it's going to be a terrible damn problem. Frankly, these people frighten me. Politics and governing demand compromise.

But these Christians believe they are acting in the name of God, so they can't and won't compromise. I know, I've tried to deal with them.”

It still happens there are just less and less people willing to do that as the two parties become increasingly polarized.

Negotiate? What is that? I haven't seen it at the national level for almost two decades.

I was just rethinking this as Dave Brat beat Eric Cantor. I just don't know if DB will get enough of the independents. I think they are fine for extreme states, but moderate states...

I heard there isn't a democratic challenger.

The GOP screws itself by selecting platforms that have nothing to do with the major issues on constituents' minds. The question is what effect does the GOP have on the Tea Party.

Actually it was announced that they are running someone else from Randolph-Macon College. I can't remember the name.

That translates Democrats thinking they have a chance in an area that is estimated to be almost 60% Republican.

I will concede that it does happen. It's just so far and few between that it is frustrating.

They're finally interesting to watch. Completely looney, but fun to watch.
