Suppose again Obama turned down the deal, and Bergdahl, died in enemy captivity. Would the Leftwing be more likely to have broken with Obama on this issue, or would they have most likely deferred to the President's judgment, defending the decision?

I think it is only fair to put the responses of both sides under review. Personally, knowing that the 5 were set to be released soon anyway, I would have been confused, and uncomfortable leaving a man alone to die, but I cannot speak for others.

All I know is that I would have opposed that decision. I think he made the right one in real life.

I'm not a huge Obama supporter, but I am liberal, and I would have been pretty disappointed if they had let an american die in the hands of the Taliban when they could have saved him

Considering how disappointed they are in him about not closing Guantánamo, I think it would be way worse when it was an American.

It would have been hard to justify not taking advantage of the opportunity when it presented itself.

A number of democrats in the senate and house would have voted against the swap but he bypassed them. i'll assume they are part of the left wing for now.

If Bergdahl had died in captivity after a deal could have been made for his release the Right would have called him unpatriotic and against the POWs. The left would have been right there with him.

You'll notice it wasn't until AFTER his release tgat all the traitor stuff came out.

Had the public know before then we would have opposed it and Obama could have too without much media hate flak.

By him in the first comment I mean Obama.

Rereading that I didn't think it was clear.
