Is Sim City an accurate model for real-life city planning? (Sim City 4, Sim City Deluxe, Destinations, etc.)

100%! I dare anyone to name a city in the real world that hasn't gone from barren field to sprawling metropolis without eventually succumbing to a combination tornado outbreak, earthquake, and alien invasion! A Torquaktion!

I heard that Minecraft is now being used for this purpose.

I can't say they are a bad example. They cover the basics. I wish the sim city games covered more politics. I won't get the new one until you can play it offline.

I think that Sim games are a great place to start in order to get a basic concept of the job. But computer simulations just don't reflect the complexity of the human behaviors that change the way a city works.

We had a vegetable stand go in on a relatively slow part of the road, for example, and when they repaved the street, they put in a left turn lane because the stand was so popular that it backed up traffic with people trying to get to it.
