Do you think religious conservatives in the 1950s thought they were living in the best of times? Or did they yearn for the 1890s when life was simpler and there was no evils like "Rock & Roll"?
My opinion is that religious conservatives are never happy with their current era. They only see the bad in the world as sinful & corruptive - falsely assuming an earlier period was more pure & God-fearing.
"One nation, under God..." McCarthy and his legion of sycophants were living the dream. It doesn't get much better than, if even for only a brief period in time, to have a whole nation scared of the same silly thing that scares the poo out of you.
Its okay to be religious and a believer. I am myself. But stop thinking these are the end of days. It'll be okay. Enjoy life and all that is good in the world. There is much more of it than you think.
It's ok you can say it, you think the religious right is the same thing as the Taliban. I'm not the religious type but do believe people have the right to believe what they want. It's ok for you to believe they are backward
What??!!
You're way off...
I'm just saying they always tend to believe its the worst of times and point to certain social trends as the decaying of America. Whether it be today or the 1950s or the 1890s and so on...
How could the 50's be thought of as the worst of times? We had won a war, business was booming everyone had a job and money to spend. How could the religious people cause the decaying of the country?
Seems to me these people just went through the bloodiest, deadliest World War that cost over 100 million people their lives. And before that the Great Depression. I imagine they were trying to find some order, peace and stability in life.
