In Alaska, "59% of women suffer from intimate partner or sexual violence" (CNN). Before reading this, were you aware of the high rates of violence against women in Alaska?
It's from cnn, how could you possibly trust this report???
The rule of law is weak in Alaska.
It's the snow, causes rage, I'm trying to fight it
I have heard about the high crime rate including domestic violence in Alaska, so I took the liberty of voting yes even though I didn't know this specific data point.
Right. It seems like the communities are looking outside of their community for solutions rather than figuring out how to police themselves.
Yes I knew that. It was pretty bad when I lived up there in the 80's
I wonder why.
Interesting article- I wonder why so few in those communities seem to be motivated to figure out the problems on their own. So many of the comments were from people who were just hoping and waiting for someone to come in and enforce the law.
I have a friend who lives in Alaska, I asked him about it and he said that it's prevalent enough that there are a lot of commercials for sexual assault lawyers, and ones to promote men to not abuse their wives.
These little communities should be hiring law enforcement officers, and they should have courts even if the judge shows up only every few weeks or so (like the old days).
I'm shocked. That's three times the national average.
