You empty a can of baked beans, container of salad dressing, peanut butter or similar item while cooking. Do you rinse the container before throwing it in the trash or recycling?

What do the raccoons eat if everything is washed out?

Everything to be recycled gets rinsed.

No - I live in an area where water needs to be regularly conserved. We sometimes have quite draconian rules. Currently we are in pretty good shape, but water conservation becomes a habit.

Really?! It never occurred to me to do that unless it spilled out on the can.

No but there’s no option to recycle here.

Beans in a can, yes. Peanut butter or salad dressing, never.

Don’t want to give the raccoons a chance to go through my garbage.

Before throwing it away, no. Before recycling, yes.

Yes. I don’t want to attract bugs to my recycle bin in the garage - this is FL!

If I am recycling you have to. I’m not keeping a can of food with particles unless I want to attract critters I do not want in my garage. I do not recycle jars or cans of honey, peanut butter or jelly or mayo because they are to messy and I throw those in trash.

No. It’s a waste of water.

Yes and no. For most items, yes, but I’m not scrubbing a peanut butter jar.

This is also my philosophy. Some things get trashed even if recyclable in theory. I take my time breaking down boxes to fit in the bin and rinse most cans and bottles but there is definitely a line.

Usually the raccoons clean everything before the refuge company comes to collect it…
