Experts have warned of “major disruptions” to the US food supply chain in the coming weeks. Will there be a major food shortage in America?

A lot of major food-producing states like Iowa are on the verge of opening up. I think the experts have some false assumptions about the duration of these stupid lockdown rules.

Major? No. Will there be less variety and will the prices go up? Yes.

Trump just said he’s going to label meat processing plants as essential, so I think we’ll be alright on that front.

It’s just the media. They’re awful.

No. This is just more fear porn to push universal healthcare.

The socialists have it under control. Everyone calm down.

I saw earlier today that farmers were dumping tons of potatoes that there was no market for anymore. I don’t think the United States will ever experience a food shortage.

The "experts" also predicted a way higher fatality rate.

Yes I saw a few weeks ago farmers throwing out milk and ploughing vegetables back into fields because they couldn’t get truckers to deliver it.

CNN has been saying that since March.

Like all media, they just want to make people panic for ratings.

Nonsense. It's a bullshit excuse to force employees to work in a meat processing plant that has had an outbreak. There won't be a shortage.

Not in food as a whole, but in healthy Whole Foods there could be a real struggle. Buy local and support your local farms!

If governments continue their power grab, then yes.

Is trolling just a hobby for you, or is it a full time thing? We all know you're a 13 year old kid who spends 14 hours a day hiding behind various screens. Get a life. Go play hide and seek with your friends or something.

That depends on your definition of "major food shortage". A "major disruption" is not the same as a "major shortage".

To me, "major disruprion" suggests that there will be localized shortages of particular items, perhaps meat included. It does not automatically imply a major shortage of food in general, that is, that people will be at risk of starving. Just that we may all see scarcity of certain foods we particularly want but cant get.

Trump's recent order will alliviate that to some extent.

same experts just four weeks ago said do not worry, no risk to food supply. Idiots.

It was not because of truckers that was because of few restaurants etc being open so ordering less

Maybe shortage of exactly what you want but I doubt shortage of sufficient edible items to keep you fed.

Food will there, just not where you want it.

Minor shortages. Not major. That is, no one will starve as long as we start getting moving very soon. Obviously, the longer we’re shut down the worse it will get. Which is why Dems want to keep us shut down.

Our local grocery store is already rationing meat. We were only allowed to pick up two small packages of chicken today. The supply chain is already mangled.

We have been rationed here for about a month , first allowed only two of each kind two chicken, two beef, etc. Past few weeks we could only take two items total. Today there was nothing to take except a whole ham or whole chicken. I went to another store.
