Any flat tax even 1% hurts the poor and middle class more than the upper class.

A sales tax (vat, or "fair tax") is regressive and would hurt lower and middle class persons

Flat tax (with low end cut off, no credits or deductions, remove payroll taxes) would be very fair

I lived in Europe with a 17.5 - 22.5% VAT, some how we survived...but mind you the VAT is included in the stated price and not tacked on at the point of purchase like sales tax is.

I definitely agree with you...it is sales tax. However it is buried inside the price of the goods so the price you see is the price you pay.

That plan is regressive punishing the middle and lower classes . . .
