A mother is breast feeding her child in public. Should she cover herself or is it a natural thing?

These days the nursing bras and shirts are designed to make nursing discreet. Nursing is a beautiful thing but using good judgment is too.

People think its gross because they like to objectify women as sex objects. When they see that breasts actually have a purpose other the sexy, they get weirded out. I'm so sick of it, babies need to eat and mothers milk is the best thing for them.

That there is even a question is proof Americans need to travel more. If she tries to figure out how to hide it, it should be for her comfort, not because of what the people around her might "think".

Prove a point? Maybe if they are at a protest on the subject.
Think theyre doing it because the baby is hungry. They arent actively trying to offend people. They simply don't care about your feelings. They are being a good mum & taking care of babe.

Babies need to eat. Get over it. Boobs are not scary, sexual things. Grow up.

No, it doesn't. Slap.

Eating is a social behavior, pooping and urinating need to be done separately to maintain health standards.

Only if she doesn't want people looking. It should totally be her choice.
I doubt there are many mothers with their breast swinging freely, without the baby latched/mostly covering her. A little top boob isnt hurting anyone.

Funny how Republicans are generally harder on Islamic countries than are Democrats...yet Republicans tend to act more like Islamic countries when it comes to enforcing their own ideas of "modesty" and "values."

The two are not mutually exclusive. Taking a poop is a natural thing, too.

Natural. There seems to be this taboo about breast feeding I simply do not understand. Would I cover myself if I was a woman, probably for my own modesty, but being required to is silliness. If we didn't demonize the human body so much I think

Omg, I'm having a hard time staying away from arguing with every ignorant post. It's natural, and if you think they should cover up or not do it, then I hope someone slaps you. I wish I had more time for this today.

This would be a better society. I don't disagree we should wear clothing for all it's practical values. I just think we spend so much time putting good/bad connotations on the human body and it is all very useless.

Once again, people should mind their own business. She is feeding her child.

It's natural, and I feel she should at least cover some. Society considers it tacky to have your boob hanging out, even if there's a babe using it. And I love that she takes care of child, but once society is used to them covering, eventually....

You actually think that shitting is the same thing as eating?!?!?!?

If you don't want to see it, then put a blanket over your head. Asking a baby to eat under a hot blanket, I mean really. A baby is bigger then a bikini.

They can cover less and less and the aroma about seeing a woman's breast will go away.

When I tried to cover my firstborn, she hated it. She would grab the blanket & wave it like a flag. It drew far more attention to us than just sitting quietly & discreetly without a cover.

With all the weirdos around now I suggest she cover up but I definitely think she shouldn't HAVE to. The woman is feeding an infant, just let her be! If it disturbs you that's your problem because there is nothing wrong with it.

Yeah, most women are discrete, but if a baby needs to eat, then a baby needs to eat. Have you ever once seen a breast feeding moms nipple in public?

Yes it does. Clearly, not every natural act is appropriate for public display. If your justification for breast feeding in public is that "it's natural," you have to accept that justification for ANY natural act in public.

@JanuaryLove, I never got to breast feed because my son was so early my milk ha not developed but I know two friends with little girls who do the same thing. It's not uncommon for babies to act like that. Heck, they wanna breath while they eat! :)

Natural, but not interested in seeing milk drip down the kids chin.

Go for it guy, I even went nursed when our friends had to leave town and they had an infant daughter . First it was weird and it was just natural. I think she was all of two months old. She was too young to be upset mama was gone.

I think being discreet about it is a common courtesy. Either cover up or go to a removed area. It can't be that difficult.

The few that you THINK *may* be proving a point is nothing compared to the amount just trying to feed their child. Who cares if you don't like it?

Yes, covering can be hard when it's hot, when baby squirms, etc.

No, but it certainly blows the whole "it's natural" argument out of the water.

I think she should cover herself, only because some people are just really sensitive about the human body. But I think it's completely natural, and it should be socially acceptable to breastfeed in public.
