Is it awkward to accept money for a job done for a long-term friend?
Depends on the job. Something small, I wouldn't expect payment and wouldn't accept it if offered. Something large that took a considerable time and effort, it's only fair. I wouldn't expect them to do something massive for me for free.
I did give my best of 20+ years $1500 this year, no expectation of being repaid. Her and her husband missed a month of work when they flew in to be with her father as he was passing. They had already used their vacation to visit him for the holidays.
Depends. When my primary income was my self employment as a auto mechanic, if a friend wanted work done I charged them. I usually offered them discounts and my price was already saving them a ton of money so neither of us felt bad about it at all
Depends on what was done and the time commitment involved.
Not if the money was agreed upon beforehand.
It is for me; I don't like doing anything for money for friends, or accepting money from them (and basically I just plain *won't*). That goes for new friends too. But that's an artifact of my communal background. I'm weird that way.
